An Exploration of Heroism, Sacrifice, and Destiny through the Eyes of Bhishma Pitamah

New Delhi, August , 2024 – Acclaimed author Kush Bhargava is set to launch his latest novel, Bed of Arrows, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the India International Centre, New Delhi. This book is a poignant retelling of the Mahabharata, focusing on the life of Bhishma, one of its most iconic and tragic figures.

In Bed of Arrows (Novel- INR 495), Bhargava captures the internal turmoil and monumental sacrifices of Bhishma, the mighty warrior whose decision to relinquish his right to the throne ironically sets the stage for a destructive conflict that nearly brings Hastinapura to ruin. As Bhishma lies on his bed of arrows for 58 nights, awaiting death and contemplating his life’s choices, he reflects on the nature of heroism, sacrifice, and the eternal struggle between dharma (duty) and desire.

Throughout his life, Bhishma grapples with a deep sense of abandonment and helplessness, exacerbated by his vow of celibacy and his promise to protect the throne of Hastinapura at all costs. As the great war between the Kauravas and Pandavas unfolds, Bhishma is haunted by the curse that has shaped his destiny, leading him to question whether he will be remembered for his past glories or condemned for his inability to prevent the devastation.
