Sonny Mehta (Ajai Singh Mehta) the legendary editor and publisher passed away on December 30, 2019. Mehta is remember more as a successful publisher for his “impeccable taste and instincts, for good material as well as salable material”, according to Publishers’ Weekly.
Widely read, he cherished the aim to publish excellent writing in finest book prints, with suave marketing and networking skills. He has made several authors celebrated glitterati. He has the reputation to have published the works of nine Nobel laureates, several Pulitzer and Booker prize awardees, hundreds of excellent works that influenced the intellectuals across the globe including Toni Morrison, Kazuo Ishiguro, Salman Rushdie among others, and famous political leaders, Prime Ministers and Presidents. Sonny is considered one of the few best editors and publishers in the world.
