New Delhi: The prestigious Annual Media Award for Excellence in Journalism 2021 presented by School of Communication of GD Goenka University has been given to Nitin Kumar of Business Standard newspaper this year on National Journalism Day.
In a statement, the GD Goenka University said Kumar, a sub editor (print) with Business Standard, received the award for his exclusive story ‘In Haryana villages Covid patients wait for doctors’ in which he not only brought the core issues of administrative mismanagement but also helped the government in introspecting the loopholes and bringing about the change.
The award comprises a trophy and a citation.
“I am deeply honoured and grateful to have been chosen for this prestigious award and want to thank the jury, organisers and my extended family at Business Standard without which it wouldn’t have been possible especially Ashok Kumar Bhattacharya sir, Shyamal Majumdar sir, Shailesh Dobhal sir, Nivedita Mukherjee Ma’am and most importantly, Aditi Phadnis ma’am.”
The program was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of GD Goenka University Prof. Dr. Tabrez Ahmad and renowned journalist Ashok Bagriya.
Bagriya referred to the recent attacks on media freedom and said that media freedom is necessary to protect democracy.
There were different categories under which several journalists received the award.
